Marcello Carmagnani (1940-2025)

Professor Carmagnani, member of the Scientific Committee of the Luigi Einaudi Foundation of Turin since 1996 and, for some years, president of the same Committee, passed away few days ago.

Serious mourning for the Foundation with the passing of Marcello Carmagnani, one of the leading scholars of Latin America, former professor of Latin American History at the University of Turin, research professor at the Colegio de México, and member of Italian and foreign cultural institutions and academies.

He had started collaborating with the Luigi Einaudi Foundation in Turin in 1970 as a researcher, later becoming a member of the Scientific Committee, which he chaired from 2005-2010. He was now an honorary member.

His publications include the latest works: Le isole del lusso. Prodotti esotici, nuovi consumi e cultura economica europea,1650-1800 (UTET 2010); Economía y política. México y América Latina (El Colegio de México 2011); Economia politica e morale pubblica. Pietro Verri e la cultura economica europea (il Mulino 2014); Le connessioni mondiali e l'Atlantico, 1450-1850 (Einaudi 2018).

The ‘Studies’ series of the Einaudi Foundation includes his first research work Sviluppo industriale e sottosviluppo economico. Il caso cileno (1971) and the editing, together with Ferruccio Pastore, of the conference proceedings Migrazioni e integrazione in Italia tra continuità e cambiamento (2018).
